The Best of The 80's, The Strangest of Idols

Ben welcomes us to 80's week by making many lame references to the 80's, which unfortunately for us he would continue with throughout the show.He then introduced the judges or "our very own brat pack".Jake said that you've gotta vote, which I think we already figured out when Ben kept telling us voting numbers last week.Farley rapped which was scary but not as scary as when Ben attempted it.Sass, who Ben basically called a has been said you've got to have a sense of humor, I think she means to understand her psycho babble, but that would be you have to be drunk.Zack who was apparently changing Ben's diper in the 80's was scared by a clip of him from back in the day.The Top 10 was then introduced, with of course Ben's ever so lame intros, the "look who was alive in the 80's" clip was played and the show began.

Amber Fluery's favorite year in the 80's was 1989 because she had an ugly, oops I mean cool hairstyle that year.She chose to sing Cher's "Just Like Jesse James" for the best of the 80's and wasn't the best of the night.All I can say about her is same old, same old.She sang a slow song, she sang well, she was boring.Jake said she still hasn't gotten out of the ballad mode, although technically she's moved on to songs that are almost ballads.Farley wanted her to be more animated, I guess he wanted to see her in a pair of square pants dancing on top of a pineapple or something.Sass thought it was nice, which is Sass' way of saying I hated it because you're not a hot male feeding me grapes.Zack felt the song was questionable, which is Zack's waying saying I hated it because I'm Zack.

Rex Goudie was excited about the 80's theme because there was so much good music in that decade.He chose the Police hit "Every Breath You Take".He was unbelievably hot as usual, I loved the outfit, I loved everything about the way he looked but the performance was a little off.Rex stepped out of his comfort zone though, and although he didn't quite pull it off, he tried which was good enough for me.The worst part about the whole thing was the lights, which had nothing to do with Mr. Sexy himself.Farley loved Rex's 80's vibe.Sass went on and on about how sexy Rexy was and then finished with it was great, as if, nevermind I'll stop there to keep a certain level of appropriateness.Zack wanted to be positive, but wasn't as per usual.Jake said he seemed like he had trouble with the song.

Casey LeBlanc said that in the 80's the women sang higher than she does which she felt would be her issue with the theme.She was right too, none of the songs from the 80's that seem like they would be right for Casey are right for her voice.She chose to go with Madonna's "Like A Prayer" though.She came out of her shall as was suggested last week by Mr. Gold and Mr. Werner which I really liked, it showed that she was actually trying.All in all I liked it for what it was, which was Casey putting a lot of effort and a lot of heart into something but it still wasn't up to par with what I know Casey can do.Sass applauded her effort and loved the song choice.Zack said Casey doesn't do anything for him, and personally I doubt she cares to.Jake thought she nailed the beginning but said she really needs to learn to sell the song.Farley said she needs to sell the emotion.Does anyone else think the judges were sending subliminal messages meaning they want her to drop out of CI and become a sales person ?

Daryl Brunt thinks 80's music is awesome, just imagine that in a valley girl tone of voice and you'll be imaging exactly what I witnessed.He chose a former #1 hit "Tainted Love" for 80's week, probably because it's *squeals* awesome.Daryl is just so young and him trying to be sexy is just so wrong.Overall I hated the vocals, it was another one of those performances where the singer chooses to ignore the whole song and just hit the big notes, and I hate that.Zack thought it was odd and also told Daryl that he was odd.Jake thought it was Daryl's best performance.Farley thinks he's starting to evolve, into what I may ask, an above average lounge act.Sass thinks he's amazing which isn't shocking since he is of the male gender.I think the judges need to stop drinking before the shows where they need to judge.

Suzi Rawn was excited about 80's week because she was born in 1982 and loves the music.She chose Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" which immediately had me excited.I love, love, love that song and her rendition was phenomenal.A winner's performance is all I can say.Jake loves that she sells the song.Farley says she knows who she is.Sass is never unimpressed by her.Zack made some strange assumptions-and we all know what that means-and yelled "go and do it" again.

Aaron Walpole remembers his mullet from the 80's, which is scary and I wish all the pictures of it had been burned before this episode aired.He chose Loverboy's "Working For The Weekend".Aside from the scary faux hawk and the pink shirt the performance wasn't too bad.I absolutely love his tone and the theatrics don't bother me so I thought it was pretty okay.Farley thinks Aaron is a friendly performer, which I don't quite understand because he didn't even greet the audience or give out pie before his performance.Sass was insulting to a point and stupid as usual with her comment.Zack showed off his shirt which was completely irrelavent.Jake thought the performance was great.Aaron rolled his eyes, which I will gaurentee was because of the judges stupidity.Ben being intelligent and witty for once in his life called Zack's shirt disgusting and another first I agreed with Ben.

Josh Palmer said "oh no" when he heard that it was 80's theme for this week.Josh chose to sing Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight".Looking totally gorgeous as usual he gave an amazing performance, up until the last note that is.It was haunting, until the last note and he rocked it until the last note.I loved it until the last note and as you may have guessed the last note ********ed.Sass was impressed by his song choices once again, she thinks he always picks fitting quirky songs.Zack babbled on about being pretentious.Jake said he delivered the pain, which in this case was a compliment.Farley asked the audience if they'd buy Josh's album and of course my answer was hell yes.

Melissa O'Neil was ecstatic about 80's night because her parents always listen to 80's music and it apparently rocks.Melissa chose "Holding Out For A Week Where I'm Not In The Bottom 3" or "Holding Out For A Hero" if you want to get technical.It wasn't my personal favorite performance from Melissa but I thought she did a pretty good job with it.If she's in the bottom 3 again after that performance I don't know what is up with Canada.Zack thinks she's the only person aside from Josh who shows originality.Jake says she should never be bottom 3, and from all the screaming and finger waving her father was doing I assume he agrees.Farley says she has a knack for song interpreatation.Sass said that Melissa is her kind of Idol, if only Sass was sober enough to dial all Melissa's worries would be gone.

Overall Canadian Idol's flashback to the 80's wasn't that stellar.I'd say my Top 3 performances of the night were "Heartbreaker" by Suzi Rawn, "In The Air Tonight" by Josh Palmer and "Like A Prayer" by Casey LeBlanc.People who should be in the bottom 3 after tonight are Amber, Rex and Daryl and people who probably will be in the bottom 3 after tonight are Amber, Casey and Josh.

I would hope not, but anything is possible with the way Canada is voting.Last week I recall saying "Ashley won't be in the bottom 3".

Oh dont forget Daryl Brunt would be bottom 3 tonight or next week, my god this boy is really Odd, no personality, no charisma, no stage presence except his female voice and if you noticed he is never been favorite with the judges. as Zack saying "you sounds odd dude". I mean really in my personal opinion, he has no qualities to be an idol. I want an idol who has a strong stage presence, personality and voice like a man.
