It would be nice to have an original kind of theme....

... something that has not been done before on Canadian or American Idol. For instance, how about Doo Wop Classics. The golden era of doo wop was from 1954 to 1963. It was primarily R&B but of the soft variety - strong melodies and beautiful vocals.

The following would be my recommendations for some of the current CI contestants and if you are familiar with the songs, you would see what I mean that this would be a refeshing theme and a great opportunity for the contestants to really display their stuff:

Aaron - Earth Angel (originally by The Penguins)

Rex - In the Still of the Night (originally by The Five Satins)

Suzi - Maybe (originally by The Chantels)

Josh - Heart and Soul (originally by The Cleftones)

Melissa - Will You Love Me Tomorrow (originally by the Shirelles)

For some of those contestants already gone, it would have been really nice to have heard the following:

Daryl - Since I Don't Have You (originally by The Skyliners)

Amber - Hello Stranger (originally by Barbara Lewis)

Please consider this doo wop theme, dear producers.

Thank you.

Maybe they're saving those for future seasons. They can't always do new themes because some people like seeing the old themes done again and that would also mean they'd have to seek out copyrights for more songs.

Yes, I can understand that seeking out copyrights for more songs can be an expensive undertaking, but I do strongly believe that people would like to see some new themes.

Canadian Idol has developed a reputation for doing things differently starting in season 2. Continuing in this vein should be considered a direction well worth taking, in my opinion.

Cool....Aaron and I sang that stuff all the way home whenever I picked him up at college....and Aaron wrote a song in that style for a cd that they sold at Sheridan.

If you want to hear really good doo-wap, have a listen to The Essentials, an outstanding a cappella group that I discovered in Toronto. http://www.essentialsmusic.com.

I invited them to perform with the Timmins Youth Singers and, as a result, they are featured on our Scenes From a Dream CD. They are amazingly gifted and their manager, Mark Watson, is a whiz kid!

You should hear their "In The Still Of The Night"! Awesome.

Hey thanks. I will have to look into them.

I wanted to know if you have heard Divine Brown's "Old Skool Love"? I think this is first real original doo wop song that has hit radio in decades.

Casey's name is not there, because I found it difficult finding a song for her.

However, upon further reflection, I think she would do a good job on the song, "Angel Baby" originally done by Rosie and The Originals.

Yes, I have Old Skool Love within the playlists of my radio station, but a quicker way to listen to it is go here:
http://universalurban.com/divinebrown/

You will find the video down below on the page in the "Media" section. There is nothing that beats a great voice with a great song, and it's so doo woppy too.
