Idol O'Neil, runner-up Goudie confess to romance

Canadian Idol winner Melissa O'Neil and runner-up Idol Rex Goudie confessed to CTV on Thursday that they are indeed romantically involved.

Despite O'Neil telling eTalk's Tanya Kim that the two Canadians Idols were only "best friends" during a backstage interview at the Junos, Goudie, 19, couldn't keep the secret any longer.

When CTV's Eric Longley asked, "first the question on everybody's minds - are you two and item?" the two Idols looked at each other smiling before Goudie answered candidly.

"Yes, we are," Goudie answered as O'Neil laughed.

"We've been together and we've been doing a pretty good job keeping a secret of it since, what… our third week of Idol," Goudie expanded, causing O'Neil to buckle over in shock of the confession.

"This is a CTV News Ottawa exclusive," O'Neil, 17, said.

Goudie, a Newfoundland native, stressed that Canadian Idol is about the music and not the romantic plot twists among Idol contestants.

"Canadian Idol is more about the music. That's why nothing came out of it. If you're watching Idol, watch for the music. I mean, that's what it's all about," he said.

Goudie was nominated for both Artist of the Year and his album, Under The Lights, nominated for the Album of the Year at this year's Juno Awards in Halifax.

Goudie and O'Neil, in Ottawa on tour, agreed that winning and being runner-up in Canadian Idol has changed their lives enormously.

"Now that we're on road, with a band and everything, and we're doing concerts - and there's people coming - it's incredible. I think we're both very blessed," O'Neil said.

The pair also introduced the MusiCan video together at the Junos.

The two wrap up their Let It Go tour, which has played in front of sold-out crowds across Canada, on April 20 in Hamilton, Ont

As far as I know the only way to contact him is through his MySpace account... however, he's not on it often. The administrator of the account is on more, I believe.

I'm not so sure I like them together, but if Rex is happy then I'm happy for him.

I'm glad this was FINALLY announced tho. It's so hard to keep one's mouth shut when told such a juicy secret!

Oh and I had a reliable source too: Rex's second cousin that works at the Walmart in Clarenville. I was down there one day to get a new cd, and she asked me what I was listening to. I replied, "GBS, my fave band." She said "Do you like Rex Goudie?"
And I was like "yeah, love him." "He's my cousin," she replies.

My jaw dropped. How was I to know that I was going to meet one of Rex's relatives?

So I asked the question that had been nagging at me. "Are Rex and Melissa.." and before I could finish my question, she said 'Yes," which gave me conformation to what I had already thought to be true.

Things like that don't happen every day!

Every time something like that happens, I sincerely hope that they can type fast. Otherwise, what a complete and utter waste of time it is, typing stuff like that up.
